Excused Student Absence for Mental Health Reasons
Public Act 102-321
Effective January 1, 2022
The Illinois State government passed Public Act 102-321, the Excused Student Absence for Mental Health Reasons Act, that becomes effective January 1, 2022.
This act allows students to have an excused absence due to the mental or behavioral health of the student. Students will be allowed up to 5 excused days. After the student uses 5 days a doctor’s note may be required, and after using 2 days the student may be referred to the appropriate school support personnel such as our school counselor or psychologist.
We request that if your child needs to take this absence that you call the office and state that your child will be using a mental health day.
